Sponsored by AARP\, the class is free. \nHealthy eating doesn’t have to be complicated or boring while enjoying a variety of foods from different food groups – fruits\, vegetables\, whole grains\, lean meats\, fish\, eggs\, nuts\, seeds\, legumes\, dairy products\, and healthy fats. \nWith the holidays approaching\, panettone\, the Italian sweet bread originally from Milan\, is showing up on store shelves. Made months in advance\, preservatives keep it soft.   \nIn this month’s Eat Well & Age Gracefully class\, sponsored by AARP\, instead of buying it premade\, let your tastebuds savor the experience of tasting it fresh from the oven. Join Chef Barry Infuso and learn how to make and bake it in a paper bag\, proving homemade is best. \nThe flavors are so amazing\, you’ll never purchase it readymade again. Light\, fluffy\, buttery\, and chock full of dried fruits\, the yeast-leavened\, mouth-watering bread is often thought of as dessert. Enjoy it with coffee\, tea\, or mulled wine. It’s yummy toasted\, too. \nA freshly baked piece and a hot beverage will start the class as a preview of the deliciousness to come. Traditionally made with raisins and citron\, you’ll customize your dough with choices of raisins\, dried pineapple\, apricots\, cherries\, and candied citrus. You’ll take home enough dough to bake four 1 pound breads\, enough to keep and give as gifts. \nCLASS NOTES: We experience a high number of people who cancel at the last minute or don’t show up for the Eat Well & Age Gracefully classes. Cost: $75.00 each.   \nBecome a rockstar cookier by learning how to decorate them like a pro! Magic Spoons master baker and decorator Patricia Ordoñez Beattie will make it easy by sharing her secrets and tips as well as guide you step-by-step making Valentine-themed hearts and lips. \nYou’ll learn how to make the perfect cut-out sugar cookies that don’t spread\, how to roll to the perfect thickness\, and cutting the shapes. Then making the best foolproof royal icing\, everything about food coloring\, thinning icing into three consistencies and assembling a decorating bag.     \nThen it’s fun time piping lines\, flooding – spreading the icing over the cookie until it reaches the piped outlines – and wet-on-wet – piping on top of the base layer while it’s still wet. There are sprinkles\, too. \nYou’ll decorate 6 cookies in class and take home 6 undecorated cookies along with a kit containing white\, pink and red royal icing and sprinkles.   \nCLASS NOTES: The in-person class\, limited to 16\, will be held at the Catalina United Methodist Church kitchen\, 2700 E.
