DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, June 16\, 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM. Peruvian Cuisine & Cultural Influences with Chef Sybil Velarde. Cost: $75.00 per person.   \nThere’s so much more to Peru than Machu Picchu! A native of Lima\, Chef Sybil grew up cooking with the multicultural influences Lima is known for – Spanish\, Asian\, Italian and French. She further honed her skills at Cordon Bleu in London. \nOn the menu: Choritos à la Chalaca (Mussels Callao Port Style)\, a classic Peruvian dish whose presentation varies from different regions along the coast. The dish combines mussels\, red onion\, tomatoes and corn with spices. Lomo Saltado (Stir-Fried Beef) is a favorite dish of every Peruvian household. Sirloin\, potatoes\, and a variety of spices are the stars. Its influence comes from Chinese immigrants who arrived in the 19th century to work in haciendas along the coast and on the railroads. Suspiro de Limeña (Lima Lady Sigh). A caramel like pudding topped with a Port wine meringue. \nCLASS NOTES: The in-person class\, limited to 16\, will be held at the Catalina United Methodist Church kitchen\, 2700 E. Speedway Blvd. You’ll receive an email with class details (everything you’ll need will be provided) 3 days in advance. Please use an email address you frequently check. You can request a transfer to a different class or event up to 7 days prior to the class or event. Culinary Boot Camps or workshops require a 14-day notification.
