SUMMARY:Asian Food Adventure – Bánh Xèo – Savory Vietnamese Crepes
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, April 19\, 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM. Asian Food Adventure – Bánh Xèo – Savory Vietnamese Crepes with Chef Jackie Tran. Cost: $75.00 per person.   \nBánh xèo is a Vietnamese essential that strangely hasn’t caught on in America like pho or banh mi. But it’s no less tasty or memorable. In fact\, it used to be Chef Jackie Tran’s go-to dish to cook whenever he had a date over. It’s fast and easy to make with ingredients you can gather in a single trip to the Asian market. \nThe thin\, turmeric-yellow crispy crepe serves as a canvas for bean sprouts and whatever protein you want — fatty pork and shrimp are the most popular choices. Break off a piece of the crepe\, wrap it in some fresh greens and herbs\, and dip it into Vietnam’s quintessential sauce\, nuoc cham. \nAlso a renowned food photographer and writer\, he’ll also share his tips for creating Instagram-worthy photos. \nCLASS NOTES: The in-person class\, limited to 16\, will be held at the Catalina United Methodist Church kitchen\, 2700 E. Speedway Blvd. You’ll receive an email with class details (everything you’ll need will be provided) 3 days in advance. Please use an email address you frequently check. SUMMARY:In-person or Zoom Class: Whiskey Wednesday Del Bac Style
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, December 29\, 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM. In-person & Zoom Class: Whiskey Wednesday Del Bac Style. In-person cost: $50.00 each. Zoom cost: $40.00 per household. \nMaking and sipping craft cocktails + taste of Tucson award-winning Whiskey Del Bac + mixologist extraordinaire Jax Donahue = a fun Whiskey Wednesday! \nOne shaken\, one stirred\, Whiskey Del Bac brand ambassador Jax has created two amazing cocktails. You’ll shake Falling & Spicy combining Dorado Del Bac\, ginger syrup\, fresh rosemary and a honey syrup. Stirring the Winter Old Fashioned\, you’ll blend Classic Del Bac with star anise\, clove and cinnamon. \nDorado is a single malt whiskey reflecting the character of the American Southwest. Using the Scottish model of whisky-making\, Dorado is made from 100% barley that’s malted and smoked over a velvet mesquite fire\, mashed\, fermented\, copper pot distilled\, aged and bottled at the distillery. Dorado has a nose of tobacco and chocolate\, giving way to campfire embers\, and finishing with soft tannins and sweet toffee on the palate. \nClassic is a true American Single Malt that also uses the Scottish model of whiskey-making. The process is the same as Dorado except it’s not smoked over mesquite. Classic opens with bright stone fruits on the nose and is balanced with a sweet caramel and oak finish. \nAll three varieties – Dorado\, Classic and Old Pueblo – will be available for separate purchase. \nCLASS NOTES: Must be 21 to attend the in-person class. Limited to 20\, it will be held at the Whiskey Del Bac Distillery\, 2106 N. Forbes Blvd.\, Ste. 103. Look for the big grain silo. You’ll receive an email with class details 5 days in advance. Cost: $75.00 per person. \nMaking calaveras or sugar skulls is part of the Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration. On November 2\, deceased loved ones return and are greeted with ofrendas (offerings) on altars covered with sugar skulls\, foods\, candles\, photos and other objects.  \nA Tucson favorite since 1986\, La Estrella Bakery’s newest and third location\, 901 N. Grande Ave.\, is the setting for this hand-on class making a sugar skull in a mold that you’ll take home\, decorating a sugar skull\, cookie and Pan Muerto\, the orange and anise light\, fluffy yeast bread. The circular shape of the bread represents the circle of life\, the fluffy risen part of the loaf represents the skull and the crunchy bread atop the loaf represents hand bones which symbolize death. \nIsabel Montaño\, Jorge Franco and Erica Franco\, children of founders Marta and Antonio Franco\, will share stories and the history of Día de los Muertos\, sugar skulls and Pan Muerto\, as well as guide you step-by-step with your decorating. \nCLASS NOTES: The in-person class\, limited to 20\, will be held at La Estrella Bakery\, 901 N. Grande Ave. Please use an email address you frequently check. Our emails can get caught in spam filters or blocked entirely. \nAll classes and events are nonrefundable.
