SUMMARY:In-person Class: Celebrating Día de los Muertos - Sugar Skulls\, Cookies & Pan Muerto
DESCRIPTION:Monday\, October 25\, 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM. In-person Class: Celebrating Día de los Muertos: Sugar Skulls\, Cookies & Pan Muerto. Cost: $75.00 per person. \nMaking calaveras or sugar skulls is part of the Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration. On November 2\, deceased loved ones return and are greeted with ofrendas (offerings) on altars covered with sugar skulls\, foods\, candles\, photos and other objects.  \nA Tucson favorite since 1986\, La Estrella Bakery’s newest and third location\, 901 N. Grande Ave.\, is the setting for this hand-on class making a sugar skull in a mold that you’ll take home\, decorating a sugar skull\, cookie and Pan Muerto\, the orange and anise light\, fluffy yeast bread. The circular shape of the bread represents the circle of life\, the fluffy risen part of the loaf represents the skull and the crunchy bread atop the loaf represents hand bones which symbolize death. \nIsabel Montaño\, Jorge Franco and Erica Franco\, children of founders Marta and Antonio Franco\, will share stories and the history of Día de los Muertos\, sugar skulls and Pan Muerto\, as well as guide you step-by-step with your decorating. \nCLASS NOTES: The in-person class\, limited to 20\, will be held at La Estrella Bakery\, 901 N. Grande Ave. Please use an email address you frequently check. Our emails can get caught in spam filters or blocked entirely. \nAll classes and events are nonrefundable. SUMMARY:In-person or Zoom Class: Cheesemaking: Mozzarella\, Burrata & Ricotta
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, October 27\, 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM. In-person or Zoom Class: Cheesemaking: Mozzarella\, Burrata & Ricotta with Dani Williams and Chef Thomas Garnick. In-person cost: $75.00 each. Zoom cost: $40.00 per household. \nThe soft texture of mozzarella\, the creaminess of burrata (the soft shell with a creamy center) and the lightness of ricotta – you’ll make some of the richest and tastiest cheeses ever! \nIn this hands-on class you’ll explore and learn the secrets of Italy’s iconic cheeses and after they’re made\, part two is creating a burrata board\, pairing the cheeses with complementary foods. Pairing the right cheeses and fruits provides a flavorful contrast of taste and textures. Pickled foods are a tangy contrast to cheeses. Fruits bring bright\, fresh flavors. Crackers provide a yummy topping vehicle.     \nDesigner Dani Williams and Chef Thomas Garnick of Graze + Provisions will guide you step-by-step making the cheeses and creating a magazine worthy board that’s the perfect union of design and food. \nStarting with your provided 12-inch round board\, serving four\, you’ll combine the cheeses with Urban Grove dates\, nuts and a variety of seasonal fruits\, 2 mini jars of honey and fig jam\, mint and edible flowers for garnish as well as a pre-packaged side of crackers and a packet of disposable utensils: Wood honey dipper\, wood knife and wood mini spoons. \nCLASS NOTES: The in-person class\, limited to 20\, will be held at The Urban Grove\, 550 W. Orange Grove Rd.\, and is also offered live via the Zoom app. The Zoom class doesn’t include the board\, ingredients and utensils; you’ll receive an email with class details\, including the shopping list and sources\, 5 days in advance. Please use an email address you frequently check. Our emails can get caught in spam filters or blocked entirely\, please contact us if you don’t receive the class information. \nAll classes and events are nonrefundable.
