SUMMARY:What’s the Buzz – Honey Tasting with Noel Patterson
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, October 18\, 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM. What’s the Buzz – Honey Tasting with Noel Patterson. Cost: $77.00 per person. \nLike wine\, cheese and chocolate\, honey has joined the ranks as an artisanal obsession. Experience Sonoran Desert honey like never before and taste it like a sommelier tastes wine with beekeeper and sommelier Noel Patterson of Dos Manos Apiaries. You’ll explore and learn how flowers and terroir affect its characteristics. \nHoney has a circuitous journey before ending up in a jar. Climate\, terroir and available botanical sources are the starting points. Then it’s up to the honeybees visiting the flowers with the activity of the beekeeper concluding the process. \nAs you sample each of the 6 offerings on fresh fruits\, cheeses and nuts\, Noel will empower you to trust your senses and be less analytical in your approach to flavors. You’ll also learn the flora and exact Southern Arizona and world  origin locations. \nYou’ll discover how each honey is a unique reflection of the time and place where it was harvested\, giving you the knowledge to make sustainable and delicious choices when buying it. \nCLASS NOTES: The class\, limited to 18\, will be held at Catalina United Methodist Church\, 2700 E. Speedway Blvd. You’ll receive an email with class details (everything you’ll need will be provided) 3 days in advance. Please use an email address you frequently check. Our emails can get caught in spam filters or blocked entirely. Please contact us if you don’t receive the class information. \nAll classes and events are nonrefundable. You can request a transfer to a different class or event up to 7 days prior to the class or event. Culinary Boot Camps or workshops require a 14-day notification. SUMMARY:Celebrating Día de los Muertos - Sugar Skulls\, Pan Muerto\, & Champurrado
DESCRIPTION:Monday\, October 30\, 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM. Celebrating Día de los Muertos: Sugar Skulls\, Pan Muerto & Champurrado at La Estrella Bakery. Cost: $77.00 per person. \nMaking calaveras or sugar skulls is part of the Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration. On November 2\, deceased loved ones return and are greeted with ofrendas (offerings) on altars covered with sugar skulls\, foods\, candles\, photos\, and other objects.  \nA Tucson favorite since 1986\, La Estrella Bakery’s newest and third location\, 901 N. Grande Ave.\, is the setting for this class making decorating a sugar skull and Pan Muerto\, the orange and anise light\, fluffy yeast bread. The circular shape of the bread represents the circle of life\, the fluffy risen part of the loaf represents the skull and the crunchy bread atop the loaf represents hand bones which symbolize death. \nIsabel Montaño\, Erica Franco\, and Sandra Franco\, children of founders Marta and Antonio Franco\, will share stories and the history of Día de los Muertos\, sugar skulls and Pan Muerto\, as well as guide you step-by-step with your decorating. \nYou’ll enjoy freshly baked Pan Muerto and Champurrado\, a thick\, warm\, sweet\, and earthy Mexican beverage. The rich drink gets its complex flavor from Mexican chocolate\, piloncillo (Mexican brown sugar)\, and masa harina.  \nWe’ll celebrate those we loved who are no longer with us. Feel free to bring a photo or a memento of your beloved to add to the bakery’s altar or share with the group. \nCLASS NOTES: The in-person class\, limited to 15\, will take place at La Estrella Bakery\, 901 N. Grande Ave. You’ll receive an email with class details (everything you’ll need will be provided) 3 days in advance. Please use an email address you frequently check.
