Emilie Thomson, Co-owner, Plaza Liquors
Emilie is an Arizona native, born and raised in Tucson. Her family’s business, Plaza Liquors, has been part of her life since the day she was born. Her mother went into labor in the store. Growing up, she watched her parents grow their small business through all the ups and downs. While attending the University of Arizona, she worked at Plaza, sparking her passion for the beverage industry.
After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in media arts, Emilie shifted her focus and joined the business full time. Her growing interest in wine, beer and spirits was undeniable and her family business turned out to be the perfect fit.
After working in the industry for 10 years, Emilie stepped away to explore different opportunities, but the strong pull of her first passion never went away. Coming back to the beverage industry “felt like coming home.” With her father transitioning to retirement, Emilie is back at Plaza, continuing the family tradition begun in 1978, and plans on carrying on this impressive legacy for many years to come.
Part of what she loves about this world is it’s constantly growing and evolving, and the opportunities to continue learning are endless. Emilie enjoys sharing her knowledge with customers, helping them make the perfect selections. While wine, beer and spirits can be overwhelming, Emilie enjoys bringing out the fun and approachability to wine and spirits. Cheers!
