Jan Johnson is living the dream. With her son, she owns and operates the certified organic Mill River Farm and Equinox Greens in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts.
Working year-round, the farm raises greens and other vegetables as well as chickens, hogs and honeybees.
Jan has long nurtured her passion for growing food and cooking. After a career in the corporate world, these lifelong passions came together for Jan on the farm. She loves to experience how careful stewardship of the farmland results in happier, healthier animals and higher quality meats, eggs and vegetables.
Livestock guardian dog Rosa is a Maremma sheepdog, originally bred in Italy to guard sheep. Maremmas are known for their thick coats, fluffy tails and fearlessness. She’s the reason Jan’s able to successfully raise poultry despite the local wildlife.
