Kayla Draper – Pastry Chef, BATA
Chef Kayla refers to herself as a sugar fairy since she loves creating and working with sweets!
In February, she joined new restaurant BATA the pastry chef. Prior to that she was the Ares Collective corporate pastry chef, overseeing operations for Prep & Pastry, Commoner & Co. and Flora’s Market Run.
Always artistic, her passion for cooking began at a young age and later, once she discovered pastry and baking and realizing she was good at it, culinary school was the next step. Graduating from Le Cordon Bleu Scottsdale, an internship took her to Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort in Orlando.
Walt Disney remains an inspiration for bringing a whole new entertainment concept to the world. Returning home to Tucson after Disney, Chef Draper honed her skills at Tavolino Ristorante Italiano, Acacia, North Italia and Hacienda Del Sol Guest Ranch before joining Ares Collective.
When customers walk past the pastry case, Chef Kayla wants them to feel the oohs and aahs of her sweet creations. She continues expanding her knowledge and creativity, mixing together the art, science and fun of pastries and baking.
